SkinPen Microneedling is a form of skin therapy that involves puncturing the skin using a device made up of tiny sterile needles. This commonly used treatment is designed to provide patients with relief from acne scarring, collagen loss, sun damage, and more. It has also shown great success in the treatment of stretch marks. To put it simply, microneedling with SkinPen works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The pinpricks created by the sterile needles from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin that then respond by making new collagen-rich tissue. The new skin tissue produced is more even in tone and texture. Additionally, this treatment can make the absorption of serums, creams, and plasma more effective.
The purpose of this treatment is to promote healing without scars and encourage new collagen production. Similar to fractional laser treatments, microneedling with SkinPen can be an effective way to add uniformity to skin texture. However, unlike most laser treatments, microneedling results in little to no side effects and offers results without downtime.
The gel applied during this treatment is designed to both numb the skin and facilitate a safe procedure. As the SkinPen device does its job, you will feel a slight vibration, but any and all discomfort will be minimal.
Treatments require no downtime, but some redness and swelling may be felt for up to four days after your visit. During this time, your skin will be hypersensitive, so we recommend that you avoid exposure to sunlight as much as possible. Avoid direct exposure for at least 10 days post-treatment if possible as well for added protection. Alcohol-based skin products may not be used for 14 days after treatment. Makeup may not be worn for at least 12 hours after treatment unless it is a mineral makeup approved by your provider. You may resume wearing regular makeup the day after treatment.
